How to use this page

Cook’s publishes ten local sites, and each one has its own set of questions about that county: drive times, neighborhoods, the problems its housing stock tends to have. This page is for the questions that are about the company rather than a town. If you’re asking “will you come to my neighborhood,” your market site has the better answer; if you’re asking “who is Cook’s and how does it work,” you’re in the right place.

The answers below are grouped loosely: the territory and dispatch first, then brands and the Lennox relationship, then commercial work, then agreements, financing and money.

Where the answers come from

Everything here is how the company actually operates from 37 Fairmont Ln. Where a detail is set by the office, such as agreement tiers, warranty terms and payment methods, ask when you call and you’ll get the current answer rather than a guess.

The two things most callers want to know

Will a real person answer? Yes, at any hour, and there’s no surcharge for calling at night.

Is the far end of the map served as seriously as the near end? Yes. Live Oak and Lake City are on scheduled routes and the overnight rotation like everywhere else. The drive is longer and we’ll say so, but the service is the same.

The questions, by topic

How far from Palm Coast will Cook's actually send a truck?

About 150 miles, to Live Oak and the Suwannee River towns. Between there and the shop sit nine more markets, each with its own site: Lake City, Gainesville, Ocala, Palatka, Orange Park, Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Ormond Beach and Palm Coast itself. If your town isn’t on any of those lists, call anyway; the edges are flexible for the right job.

Who decides which technician comes to my house?

Dispatch, from the Palm Coast office. Routes are built by market, so the technician working your county that day takes the call. After hours it’s the on-call technician for your region.

Is there a minimum job size for the far markets?

No. A capacitor swap in Jasper gets a truck the same as a full system in Palm Coast. Far-market calls are grouped into route days where possible, and emergencies go regardless.

Which brands will you repair, and which do you install?

Repair: any of them. Lennox, Carrier, Bryant, Trane and the rest come through the schedule every week. Install: Lennox first, because Cook’s is a Lennox dealer and knows the line, with other brands considered when there’s a good reason.

What does being a Lennox dealer get me as a customer?

Factory training on the equipment, direct access to Lennox parts and support, eligibility for Lennox promotions and rebates when they run, and a company that has installed enough of the line in Florida conditions to know which models suit which house.

Do you handle commercial buildings, or only homes?

Both. Rooftop units, split systems, maintenance contracts and installations for restaurants, clinics, churches and retail across the territory. A business with locations in several markets can run them through one account.

What is a service agreement, in one sentence?

Scheduled seasonal tune-ups, a place ahead of the line on bad days, and member pricing on repairs, with the specific tiers and inclusions confirmed by the office. [[CONFIRM WITH JERRY]]

How does financing get offered, and by whom?

Jerry lays out the current terms in writing at the free estimate for a new system. The lender, rates and term lengths aren’t published online because they change; they’re explained in person before anything is signed.

Do you charge a trip fee for an estimate?

Estimates on new systems are free anywhere in the territory. Diagnostic visits for repairs carry a charge that you’re told when you book, and it’s the same at night as during the day.

Are your technicians employees or subcontractors?

Employees, trained at the Palm Coast shop and driving company vans. Cook’s doesn’t hand jobs to a subcontractor network in the outlying markets.

Can you install a system that works with solar panels?

Yes. Cook’s is certified to install solar-compatible air conditioning systems, and also installs geothermal and ENERGY STAR equipment. Tell us at the estimate if the house has or is getting panels.

Does Cook's pull permits?

For installations, yes, in whichever county the house sits in. Inspection requirements differ between Flagler, St. Johns, Duval, Alachua and the rest, and handling that is part of the job.

What's the warranty situation on a new Lennox system?

Manufacturer coverage on the equipment, registered by us at install so the longer registered term applies, plus the company’s own labor warranty on the installation. Exact terms are on the proposal. [[CONFIRM WITH JERRY]]

How do I pay?

At the visit, by the methods the office currently accepts. [[CONFIRM WITH JERRY: cards, checks and online payment]]

What should I do if I'm unhappy with a visit?

Call the office and ask for Jerry. Satisfaction is guaranteed, and the usual fix is a return visit at no charge. We’d rather hear it from you than read it later.
